A new class for the Cadet Kart Championship in 2021, the CKC112 cadets caters for drivers who are a touch over the 105kg weight limit for the standard cadets, giving them somewhere competitive to race. For round 2 at Lydd, 5 drivers made the trip down south, with championship leader Lewis Goff looking to make it 2 wins from 2 events.

In qualifying, it was Addison Smith who took the top spot with a time of 44.067, just under half a tenth faster than the championship leader who lined up in 2nd, both mixing it with the lighter CKC105 drivers. 3rd in class was William Fitton, with Zach Turner leading the novice battle between himself and Oliver Green.

When the racing kicked off, Goff stamped his authority on proceedings, taking the class win and coming home 12th overall. Smith would say 2nd in class, but would drop away from Goff, ending the race with 5 of the 105 drivers between the pair. Fitton hung onto 3rd, while Oliver Green would get the upper hand over Turner in the opening heat.

Goff would take back to back heat wins, coming home 13th overall. Addison Smith would again take 2nd, but this time he was chased home by Fitton, who crossed the line just 6 tenths behind their rival. This time, Turner would take the top novice spot from Green, setting up a battle between the pair of them.

The final heat would see Goff complete a clean sweep of heat wins, once again mixing it with the lighter 105 drivers. He crossed the line with 7 seconds in hand over Smith who took a clean sweep of 2nd place finishes. Meanwhile, Oliver green would edge out William Fitton by 1.5 seconds for 3rd with Turner not taking the start.

The final would see Goff start 1st in class and 13th overall, while Smith had a few 105 drivers to overtake from 18th, Fitton would start 22nd overall with Oliver Green directly behind him on the grid. Turner would go off the back of the grid after not starting the final heat.

Goff would loose places in the early laps, allowing Smith the chance to take the class lead, with Fitton closing in behind. Behind, Turner had already gained 4 places to run right behind Green by the half way point.

Goff spent a few laps chasing, he made his move to take the class lead of Smith, with the pair pushing together. Behind, Turner had lost time to Green, and had all the hard work to do again with just a few laps left to go.

As the race reached it’s closing stages, Green had caught up to Fitton. Seizing his opportunity, he went through into 3rd in class, with Fitton falling down to 27th overall & behind Turner in the closing laps. Back at the front, Smith had chased Goff for much of the closing stages, but couldn’t get through, leaving Goff free to take his second class win of the season.

It means that Goff’s championship lead is now up to 28 points over Addison Smith. Will Fitton held onto 3rd, with just 14 points in hand over Green who moves into 4th.

The next time the CKC112 category gets on track will be for round 3 at Fulbeck at the start of July. As ever, the race day will be streamed live on the CKC Facebook page, so make sure not to miss any of the action.
